An 11-year-old Deltona boy was arrested by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) last Friday and is currently being charged with a second-degree felony for making a false report of a bomb on the bus.
According to VSO, on Friday, January 10, 2025, 11-year-old Aiden Brown decided to yell out that another student on the bus had a bomb in his backpack, disrupting a morning school function. The bus driver immediately took action to report the threat, and an entire shift’s worth of deputies responded to the area of Oxford Drive and Lorraine Drive in Deltona alongside additional units for backup and staff from Deltona Middle and Volusia County Schools.
Deputies cleared the students from the bus to do a sweep for explosives and firearms; however, there were none. Aiden admitted to deputies that he had completely made up the threat and that he never had any reason to believe there was an actual bomb on the bus.
A review of the bus’ video surveillance footage, as well as interviews with Aiden and his fellow students, confirmed that the Deltona boy had repeatedly shouted that there was a bomb despite knowing there wasn’t one.
In a short clip of the arrest shared by VSO, deputies can be seen clearing students from the bus, followed by Brown being told about the gravity of his actions by one of the responding deputies. The 11-year-old is then seen in cuffs exiting a police vehicle and approaching the processing center to be wanded before being transported to a holding cell.
