W.W. Industrial Group, Inc. has issued a nationwide recall of its Parashore Pear Slices in Juice due to elevated levels of lead and cadmium, two toxic heavy metals that can pose serious health risks, particularly to children.
The affected product is sold in 15-ounce cans and was distributed through Grocery Outlet stores in California and across the U.S. The recall was triggered after testing conducted by the Maryland Department of Health—as part of the FDA’s Laboratory Flexible Funding Model program—found high levels of the contaminants in Lot #3700/01172 6122J (production date: February 19, 2024; best by: February 19, 2027). The recalled cans carry the UPC code 704817164237.
While no illnesses have been reported as of July 22, 2025, lead and cadmium can be harmful even at low levels, particularly with long-term exposure. Symptoms of poisoning can include abdominal pain, vomiting, mood changes, lethargy, developmental delays, and in severe cases, seizures or coma. Children, infants, and pregnant women are especially vulnerable, even when symptoms are not immediately obvious.
W.W. Industrial Group is urging consumers not to eat the affected pear slices and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard them safely. Anyone with questions can contact the company directly at 516-676-9188, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.
This recall is being conducted with the knowledge and cooperation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
