Antibiotic Mix-Up and Salmonella Scare Among 5 Major Recalls Across Nation in One Day

Five separate food and drug products were recalled on July 14, 2025, in what appears to be a spike in safety alerts issued by the FDA. The recalls, which span both consumables and medications, involve risks ranging from salmonella and plastic contamination to dangerously mislabeled prescription drugs.

One of the cases involves Sandoz, Inc., which recalled vials of Cefazolin for Injection, USP, 1 gram, after discovering that some were incorrectly labeled as Penicillin G Potassium for Injection. The mix-up could lead to serious consequences for patients, especially those with allergies or who require a specific antibiotic treatment. Improper administration could result in ineffective care or dangerous allergic reactions.

Also among the drug recalls, Nostrum Laboratories, Inc. issued a recall of its Sucralfate Tablets USP 1 gram due to the company’s sudden closure and cessation of quality control activities. Without ongoing oversight, the integrity and safety of the product can no longer be guaranteed.

On the food side, Hartford Bakery, Inc. pulled its Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf from shelves after it was found to contain undeclared hazelnuts. The oversight poses a significant health risk to individuals with nut allergies, who could unknowingly consume the product and suffer potentially life-threatening reactions.

In another recall, Danone U.S. announced it is recalling certain YoCrunch® yogurt products after reports surfaced that small plastic pieces might be present in the dome toppers. The contamination could lead to choking or injury, particularly among children.

Finally, World Market issued a recall of its Emek Spread Pistachio Cacao Cream with Kadayif due to the presence of salmonella, a potentially dangerous bacteria that can cause severe gastrointestinal illness and complications, especially in children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.

The series of recalls issued on the same day highlights the continued need for vigilance in both food production and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Consumers are urged to check their products, consult with healthcare providers if they believe they may have been exposed to any of the affected items, and contact the manufacturers for refund or disposal instructions.
