Senator Scott, Congressman Patronis Introduce Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk
Senator Rick Scott announced Tuesday a resolution to designate October 14, 2025, as a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk. The measure, introduced on what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday, seeks to honor the conservative activist who was killed last week in what authorities have described as an act of political violence.
A companion resolution is being led in the House of Representatives by Congressman Jimmy Patronis.
In a statement, Scott described Kirk as “a magnetic leader, a loving father and husband, and a friend and inspiration to so many.” He added that Kirk “loved our nation and its founding principles and believed deeply in his faith, in his family, and in the beauty of ideas and discussion,” and that he worked to bring people together through debate and dialogue.
Patronis echoed those remarks, calling Kirk “a fearless defender of faith, freedom, and the principles that make America great,” noting that his presence on college campuses nationwide demonstrated that “tough conversations could be met with respect and charisma.”
Charlie James Kirk (1993–2025) was a conservative activist, author, and commentator best known as the founder of Turning Point USA, a youth-oriented political organization promoting free markets and limited government on college campuses. A close ally of President Donald Trump, he also hosted The Charlie Kirk Show and wrote several books, including The MAGA Doctrine and The College Scam. Kirk rose to prominence as a confrontational voice on issues such as diversity programs, race, and gender, earning both staunch supporters and critics. He was fatally shot in September 2025 while speaking at a Turning Point event in Utah, an act prosecutors have described as politically motivated.
The proposed resolution would formally establish October 14 as a day to reflect on Kirk’s contributions, encouraging prayer and public recognition of his work.
