Consumers across the U.S., including those in the state of Florida, are being urged to check their freezers after Bestway Sandwiches Inc., a company based in Valencia, California, announced a recall of approximately 24,870 pounds of their frozen chicken and cheese taquitos. Sold by a popular affordable grocer nationwide, the recall was initiated due to concerns over health hazards associated with the swallowing of sharp metal shards that may be contaminating the product.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), announced the recall on January 11, 2025. The affected product in question is Casa Mamita Chicken and Cheese Taquitos — specifically those sold in 20 Oz. carton packages.
These taquitos were produced on July 3, 2024, and September 25, 2024, with best-by dates of 07/03/25 and 09/25/25. The recalled taquitos also have the establishment number “ETS. P-40327” and a UPC number of 4061459337471 printed on the carton.
Florida residents, along with consumers in other states, may have purchased these taquitos from their local Aldi store, as the now recalled item was distributed to locations across the country.
Aldi stores where the recalled item has been sold are located in the following states:
- Alabama
- Arkansas
- Connecticut
- Washington DC
- Delaware
- Florida
- Georgia
- Iowa
- Illinois
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Massachusetts
- Maryland
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- Mississippi
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New York
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
- Virginia
- Vermont
- Wisconsin
- West Virginia
The recall follows a consumer complaint in which a piece of metal was found in the taquitos, as well as another report of a dental injury that came from consuming metal-contaminated product.
At this time, no further injuries or illnesses have been reported, but the FSIS is taking the situation seriously. The food-safety agency is advising consumers who may still have the recalled taquitos in their freezers to either dispose of them or return them to the store they were purchased from for a full refund.
FSIS is closely monitoring the recall to ensure that the products are no longer available to consumers. If you have concerns or questions about the recall, the FSIS encourages you to contact Bestway Foods’ Quality Assurance Department at (818) 361-1800, using Extension 110. When available, the retail distribution lists for associated recalls will be posted on the FSIS website at FSISsis.usda.gov/recalls.
