A Major Shift in Florida Politics? Florida Attorney General Announces Departure

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has officially announced that she will be stepping down from her current role to pursue a seat in the United States Senate, marking a significant career transition after years of shaping state policy and leading legal battles on behalf of Floridians.

In a heartfelt statement, Moody reflected on the pride and honor she felt in serving as Florida’s Attorney General, detailing her accomplishments over the past five years. “Serving as Florida’s Attorney General is a tremendous honor,” she said, highlighting her efforts to fight federal overreach, protect children and families, and support law enforcement in making Florida a safer place.

“After six years as the state’s Chief Legal Officer, I am grateful for all of the progress we made fighting the opioid crisis, putting human traffickers behind bars, pushing back on Biden’s unlawful immigration policies, modernizing crime reporting nationwide, revolutionizing organized retail theft investigations, recruiting hundreds of new law enforcement officers and so much more.”

Moody’s tenure has been defined by a series of high-profile legal actions, including her work combating the opioid crisis by securing a historic multibillion-dollar settlement. She also helped develop initiatives to provide life-saving naloxone to first responders and launched online resources for those struggling with substance abuse.

Addressing the nationwide immigration crisis, Moody led Florida’s legal fight against the federal government, challenging unlawful policies and offering support to Florida law enforcement at the Southwest border. She also played a key role in defending Floridians against federal mandates during the pandemic, fighting mask and vaccine requirements, and securing the reopening of the state’s cruise industry.

In her departure message, Moody took pride in her efforts to protect children, taking on Big Tech and strengthening laws to guard Florida’s youth from social media’s harmful effects. She also tackled the rise in cybercrime with the launch of Florida’s first Cyber Fraud Enforcement Unit, which helped freeze cryptocurrency scam accounts and secured millions in restitution for victims.

“I have been honored to fight alongside of our great Governor, Ron DeSantis, in so many important legal battles and innovative initiatives contributing to Florida’s continued prosperity,” Moody said. She also noted her leadership in bolstering senior protection, advancing law enforcement reforms, and supporting victims of crime.

Looking ahead to her new role, Moody expressed her enthusiasm about continuing her work on the national stage. “I look forward to continuing the fight in Washington as your new United States Senator to help our nation build a Stronger, Safer America,” she said.

As she prepares to leave her post, Floridians and political observers alike will be watching closely to see how her leadership in the state will influence her future ambitions in Washington.
